1. The definition and distinction between Langue and Parole.

Definition: Langue is the whole system of language that precedes and makes speech possible. A sign is a basic unit of langue.
Parole is the concrete use of the language, the actual utterances. It is an external manifestation of langue. It is the usage of the system, but not the system.
Distinction: According to Saussure, the distinction between Lengue and Parole are Parole is the realm of the individual moments of language use, of particular 'utterances' or 'messages,' whether spoken or written, langue is the system or code which allows the realization of the individual m essages."

2. The definition and distinction between Competence and Performance.

Definition: Competence is the standard of the knowledge, skills, attitudes and judgement to practise within the scope to a standard acceptable to reasonable peers and to the community.
Performance is a practice of practising to a standard acceptable to reasonable peers and to the community.
Distinction: The distinctions between both of them are a 'competence,' is an idealized capacity, while performance is the production of actual utterances,

3. Based on the Chomsky’s statement, he describes that 'competence' as an idealized capacity that is located as a psychological or mental property or function and ‘performance’ as the production of actual utterances. In short, competence involves “knowing” the language and performance involves “doing” something with the language. The difficulty with this construct is that it is very difficult to assess competence without assessing performance.
